The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (“Metropolitan”) is the largest distributor of treated drinking water in the U.S. As a regional wholesaler, Metropolitan provides water to 26 member public agencies for distribution to 19 million residents in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura. Importing water from the Colorado River and Northern California, the District owns and operates an extensive water system including: the Colorado River Aqueduct, 16 hydroelectric facilities, nine reservoirs, 819 miles of large-scale pipes and five water treatment plants. Four of Metropolitan’s treatment plants are among the 10 largest water plants in the world.

Metropolitan sought to replace its legacy budget system with a budgeting software solution to manage financial planning and budgeting, as well as financial modeling and performance reporting. Questica Budget’s Change Request feature will make it easy for staff working on the budget to enter operating equipment requests, such as bulldozers, trucks, and lab equipment. By using Questica Budget, these requests will now go through an automated workflow/approval process defined by Metropolitan, specific to the type of Change Request submitted.

Questica Budget integrates with both Metropolitan’s Oracle financial system and PeopleSoft HR system to manage their biennial budget of $3.4 billion. In addition, Questica Performance will enable Metropolitan to track and monitor KPIs and explore new ways to improve their business processes.
