Smithers is a town in northwestern British Columbia with a population of over 5,300 residents. The Town was established in 1913 as a divisional point on the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, but today benefits from its proximity to the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway. Set against the backdrop of the Hudson Bay Mountain with beautiful vistas of the Babine and Telkwa Mountain Ranges, Smithers is a popular tourist destination for recreational outdoor pursuits, such as skiing, fishing, canoeing and hiking.

Smithers was ready to move on from the messy process of using Excel spreadsheets. Implementing Questica Budget will help them formalize their budget preparation process, and will enable the Town to work more efficiently and prevent inconsistencies with their chart of accounts. The solution also allows them to collaborate better on the budget, generate reports and create budget scenarios.

In addition, Smithers is purchasing Questica OpenBook, a data visualization tool that transforms budget data into easy to understand graphics for sharing with stakeholders. The Town will increase transparency and have a more effective method of communicating their budget and financial information internally, as well as to citizens.
