As one of the largest water and wastewater utilities in the United States, WSSC (Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission) owns and manages over 11,000 square miles (or 16,000 km) of water and sewer mains within a 1,000 square miles (or 2,600 km) radius in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in the State of Maryland. Established on May 1, 1918, and celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the WSSC serves 1.8 million residents by providing safe and reliable water.
Governed with equal representation from each of the counties within the commission, they’re considered a national leader in the water industry, continuing to exceed federal guidelines.
